SpartanNash - VG's team up with store guests to support Genesee County Habitat for Humanity2/7/2022
Support from the SpartanNash - VG's retail scan helps people like Kailee:
Without a support system in place, many people just getting out of prison often return to their previous way of life. “I went to prison due to my addiction” explains Kailee, “When I was released, I knew if I didn’t change my way of living, things would never be any different. I was overwhelmed with the list of things I needed to do, like getting my driver’s license back and getting a job. Once I got my license back, I started looking for a job. I put in applications all over the place, but no one wants to hire someone who just got out of prison.” “I learned about Habitat’s Apprenticeship Program. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but knew I needed something to get me going. I applied and called my dad that night and asked him to teach me how to use a tape measure over Facetime. I started the program in 2019 and that’s when I really started to feel like I had a purpose. I learned how to use power tools and we made a picnic table, I built a deck, got my high school diploma and even got LEAD certified. When the program ended, Habitat knew I was looking for something permanent and they offered me a job.” “With Habitat, I had a second chance,” she says. “My life was crazy before, now I go to church, I got engaged and was finally able to have my daughter move back in with me.” Thank you for your support!
